Supporting Pollinators in Grasslands

October 2022 Webinar:
As less than 0.1% of native North American grasslands remain, grasslands are a top priority for restoration. Yet little is known of how arid grassland restoration impacts pollinators. Dr. DiCarlo and her colleagues studied three large grassland restoration projects to determine how restoration impacted vital native bee communities and will share results and transferable lessons learned. See the CCAST Case Study about her work.
Pollinating insects are key to plant diversity in grasslands, which in turn supports diverse granivores and herbivores. Dr. Larson's work teaches us how viewing grasslands through a pollinator lens can help us manage in ways that support grassland biodiversity.

Dr. Lauren DiCarlo is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Science Department at Westfield State University. Dr. DiCarlo has studied in semi-arid grasslands for nearly a decade and her research focuses on the impact grassland restoration has on pollinator communities.
Dr. Diane Larson is a Research Wildlife Biologist with Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her research is broadly focused on plant-and-animal interactions, with a particular interest in how pollination of native plants is affected by invasive plants.
