Description: Please join us to discuss how and why managed ponds (i.e., a pond where any aspect of the environment is manipulated, in this case to benefit native species) are an important tool for managers tasked with conserving and recovering native aquatic species in Arizona. The reality for native aquatic species conservation and management in much of Arizona is one of decreasing availability of water, increased variability in precipitation and extreme weather events, and a general increase in the risk of intense wildfires and resulting scour and sedimentation in denuded watersheds.  All of these challenges are also combined with the continuing threat that nonnative invasive aquatic species pose to native aquatic species.  Today we will cover the design and management of aquatic features used in the conservation of native aquatic species, as well as provide context for how these features fit into state and federal regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, our speakers will discuss several examples of sites that are actively contributing to species conservation, as well as touch on the importance of education and outreach.

Zoom: Zoom information will be shared upon registration.
