Riparian Restoration Practitioner Workshop: Babocomari Creek
This free, 1-day workshop, located along the lower Babocomari Creek, is designed for both emerging and experienced restoration practitioners from agencies and organizations particularly BIPOC individuals and those from historically underserved communities who work in or near riparian systems.
The workshop activities will include a guided evaluation of recent low-tech process-based restoration (LTPBR) practices including post assisted log structures (PALS) and the opportunity to learn how to plan and install similar and other LTPBR practices paired with riparian pole plantings. The workshop will include opportunities for skill building, knowledge sharing, and networking.
Please note:
- Carpooling will be encouraged and facilitated among participants 1-2 weeks from the event.
- Limited travel stipends may be available upon request to offset the cost of participation and will be prioritized for BIPOC and historically underserved community members. Please contact Catlow Shipek to check availability and request a travel stipend.
- No bathroom available at field site - a portable composting toilet and privacy tent will be set up for use.
- Bring your own lunch and refillable water bottle
- Closed-toed shoes and long pants are required, and sun protection is recommended.
Workshop Goals:
- Evaluate performance of post assisted log structures (PALS) and riparian pole-plantings and explore ecological health connections;
- Learn how to plan, design, and construct a post assisted log structure (PALS);
- Facilitate a shared learning environment to allow for a range of practitioner experience to benefit;
- Connect to other diverse riparian restoration practitioners among agencies, organizations, and contractors.
